Digital Media Design is now a book.
As a surprise Christmas present for COTC President Bonnie Coe, Bill Sattelmeyer produced an 80 page full-color hard cover book of student work created in the program over the past year.

Nearly a hundred different images, from photography to print design and 3-D, the book, titled New Worlds, showcases the work of 42 students (and DMD instructor Kathleen Kinney.
DMD student Heidi Walsh received a paperback copy of the book for having her photograph "Serenity" selected as the cover of the book.

A random number generator also selected student contributor Cheryl Dupler for a copy. The book is available for purchase online. For more information contact Bill Sattelmeyer.
DMD faculty member Kathleen Kinney and student Aimee Philips were recently interviewed on Newark's radio station WCLT-AM.

If you'd like to know more about the program, you can download a podcast of the interview from the link below. (Kathleen recorded the session on her iPod. We are digital after all!)
In fact, we've got GAMES.
The Digital Media Design program will be adding a Game Design option to our Plan of Study beginning with the 2007-2008 school year. Starting in the Fall, students will be able to enroll in an Associate of Science program that can start them on the way to a possible career in the continually expanding video and computer game industry.
The courses include a critical overview of computer games, interactive storytelling, designing for games, and game programming in C++. The 2-year degree is expected to be a portal to Bachelor Game Development programs at colleges like Shawnee State, Ohio University, Michigan State, and AID&T in Detroit, where prospective designers and programmers can continue their education in specialized areas.
While we've always had Web Design courses in the Digital Media curriculum, we now have a complete Web Design Option.
As if classes in AJAX, PHP, CSS, and MySQL weren't enough, the Web Design Option is the first Digital Media Design program to be offered at all four COTC campuses.

Aside from the main DMD campus in downtown Newark, all Web Option courses are available at the extended campuses in Pataskala, Mt. Vernon, and Coshocton. Each campus has the same up-to-date equipment and software, and the courses are taught by the same digital media faculty.
Some courses are even available online, as the DMD program continues to add more online courses each year. And stay tuned for news of yet another expansion of the Web side of the program.

Digital Media Design Instructor and Program Director Bill Sattelmeyer was the Teaching Excellence Award winner for the 2006-2007 school year.
The award is given annually to full-time faculty to recognize and to stimulate excellent teaching. Faculty are nominated by students, staff or fellow faculty members.
Bill was also recently featured in Ohio Magazine's Teaching Excellence issue. Also, as of January 1, Bill is no longer DMD Program Director, but is now Chair of the Department of Media Arts.
