As a published artist and cartoonist, Russell has worked in print design for over 15 years and has been a freelance artist and designer since 1978. He has worked on both the creator and production sides of graphic design in both digital and traditional print processes.
As an artist, his work is on exhibit throughout Central Ohio, and he has received awards for his watercolors and sumi-e (a Japanese style of painting with ink and brush). His comics have been published by Eclipse Comics, Cryogenic Press, Fanatic Press, and his how-to-draw books were released by Watson Guptill Press.
A popular speaker and teacher, Russell has traveled throughout Ohio speaking on art, comics and creativity. He was recently recognized by the Thurber House for his work with young people and the arts. With a variety of teaching experiences, Russell has taught at C-Tec, The Works Museum, The Zanesville Art Center, The Columbus Library System, and the Greater Columbus Arts Council.
